Today I finally made the effort to visit Titchfield Haven National nature reserve in the hope of finding the sporadically long staying Greater Yellowlegs (Tringa melanoleuca). On arrival it was quickly clear that the bird was showing from the road initially with Black-tailed Godwits on the edge of the reed bed.

Then later the bird conveniently moved nearer the road when the party of Godwits joined others further up the river and yellowlegs relocated to the shallows and exposed mud at even closer range affording excellent views. I was soon able to photograph it at reasonable range and in good light.

The Greater Yellowlegs (Tringa melanoleuca) is a scarce bird in the UK that originates from North America.
