Titchfield Haven National Nature Reserve for
Birding and Photography

I have visited Titchfield haven only sporadically over the last decade normally with photography of particular subjects in mind. The success that I have had at this reserve given my infrequent visits is testament to the excellent setup here and well managed reserve. Below is a selection of my photography highlights from Titchfield Haven NNR.

Bittern, Canon EOS 1D MKIII, Sigma 500mm f4.5. f5.6. 1/200sec, ISO320

Avocet, Canon EOS 40D, Sigma 500mm f4.5. f8. 1/1000sec, ISO200

Black-tailed Godwit, Canon EOS 7D, Sigma 500mm f4.5. f8. 1/1250sec, ISO400

Curlew Sandpiper, Canon EOS 7D, Sigma 500mm f4.5. f8. 1/1600sec, ISO400

The well positioned hides around the main scrapes are a big bonus, allowing the birds to behave naturally at close proximity to the concealed photographer. Waders and Terns are perhaps the main attraction in autumn but Titchfield has much to offer the bird photographer at all times of the year.

Black Tern, Canon EOS 7D, Sigma 500mm f4.5. f5.6. 1/800sec, ISO400

Reed Warbler, Digiscoped with Canon Powershot A95, f4.5, 1/60sec, ISO50

Spoonbill, Digiscoped with Canon Powershot A95, f4.5, 1/1000sec, ISO50

Water Rail, Canon EOS 40D, Sigma 500mm f4.5. f5.6. 1/1250sec, ISO400
