Wasp spiders are thought to have been introduced to the United Kingdom from Europe sometime before 1922 when they were first recorded here. They are increasing their range across the south of England and gradually spreading north. Females can reach 15mm and are very distinctive. Wasp spiders eat grasshoppers, crickets and other flying insects. The male is smaller than the female and brown, he is often eaten by the females during mating.
